February Arctic Sea Ice Increases, But Continues Down Trend

Arctic Sea ice for the month of February tracked below the 1979-2000 average, but there was 85,000 square miles more cover than the February 2005 record minimum. We won't know until the end of the Arctic summer melt season in or around September 2010 as to the extent of overall Arctic sea ice conditions, or indeed whether a new minimum level will be reached.
